Memories in the Making: Good Little Machine by John
Memories in the Making is an Alzheimer’s Association art therapy program for individuals with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Volunteer facilitators help people with dementia – many of whom often have no art background – create drawings and paintings. These sessions provide participants social interaction and boost their self-esteem while opening the channels of communication with loved ones.
Today’s featured Memories in the Making artist is John. As an artist, art teacher and commercial illustrator for over 30 years, John knows a thing or two about design. When it came to this painting – inspired by an image of an old pickup truck – he was meticulous in his planning and spent a great deal of time organizing his paper and choosing how to represent the image. He worked with the facilitator to plan out each step, making sure he was comfortable with each stroke of his brush. He enjoys Memories in the Making not only because he can once again use his painting skills, but also because it gives him a chance to be around people and engage in conversation. He can share stories about his love for dogs, the places he’s hiked and his adventures in abalone diving!
John’s painting is just one of the many works of art that will be auctioned off at our annual Memories in the Making Art & Wine Auction, held this year on March 2 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. In addition to work by Memories in the Making artists, the silent and live auction selection will include fine wines, unique experiences and luxury items.
