Watch: Funded Researcher Dr. Kaci Fairchild
Dr. Kaci Fairchild is a licensed clinical psychologist whose research focuses on the non-pharmacological rehabilitation of late life cognitive impairment and neuropsychiatric disorders.
She recently received the Alzheimer’s Association new investigator grant award which will fund her research into combining physical exercise and memory training with the goal of improving memory in people 50 to 90, who have mild memory problems.
Dr. Fairchild is the Psychology Fellowship Director at the Mental Illness Research Education Clinical Center (MIRECC), located at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor (affiliated) of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Physical activity is a valuable part of any overall body wellness plan and is associated with a lower risk of cognitive decline. Exercises increases the blood flow to the brain and body, thus providing additional nourishment while reducing potential dementia risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.
Dr. Fairchild says she tries to practice what she preaches, which is why she goes to the gym five to six days a week in addition to biking 10 miles to her work.
