Walk season starts: view new how-to videos
I can’t believe it’s already June and Walk to End Alzheimer’s is in full swing. In May, we launched our national advertising campaign and we’ve been getting calls from all over Northern California and Northern Nevada from people interested in getting involved. Have you seen the commercial? I think it really captures the feeling of what it’s like to be involved in the movement to end Alzheimer’s. The Walk is truly an empowering experience that helps families connect with others on the same journey, and allows caregivers and those affected by Alzheimer’s to take a stand against this devastating disease.
I’m so proud of our Chapter’s efforts in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We’ve got 11 walks happening in Northern California and Northern Nevada this year and we are really excited about our two new additions in Redding and Modesto! While the walks are still over three months away, it’s not too early to register and start fundraising. All the walk dates and locations are listed on our website and you can easily find the walk closest to you or the walk date that best suits your schedule.
I like to register early and use every opportunity I can throughout the year to ask my network of friends to support me. I walk in honor of my mom, who battled Alzheimer’s for 10 years, and I often post about her on Facebook and ask for a donation to my Walk fundraising efforts. Mother’s Day, my birthday, whatever the occasion, I take the opportunity to ask my friends to show their support for the cause by making a donation. Have you started your fundraising yet?
We know we’ll see lots of new participants at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s this year. With a new name that represents a real call to action, we believe more and more people will be drawn to the event. To help folks get registered and start their fundraising we’ve created a couple of video tutorials. The first will show you how to register for the walk online. It’s a short video – just over five minutes – and it will really help you navigate the registration website.
The second video will show you how to use your HQ, the area of the website that allows you to customize your webpage, send email solicitations to your friends and colleagues and update your fundraising goal or profile.
Finally, the third video shows you how to use Facebook to fundraise. Our chapter has raised over $90,000 for the walk just through Facebook. There are some easy tools available to help you post walk information on your Facebook page and the third video will show you how to use them.
So, what are you waiting for? Start your Walk to End Alzheimer’s team today.
